The Institute offers certificate courses to students that have successfully completed MSCE level in Food Production, Food and Beverages Services, Front Office Operations and Housekeeping.

Malawi Institute of Tourism hosted an annual student’s social weekend on 1st July 2017. The event happened at the campus premises and apart from Students, the event attracted most of Blantyre fun lovers. During this auspicious event, climax of the program was the Miss MIT beauty contest which saw nine student girls compete for the crown. The social weekend was themed MIT for Sustainable tourism development in Malawi.
The beauty contest started late around 8pm and students in the contest battled in five categories namely talent, profession, celebrity, dinner and tradition. Out of nine, the top five had Memory Mikana and Rosemary Chiwalo as losing finalists. Caroline Phillips emerged second princess, Fahima Saidi first princess and the winner Miss MIT 2017 emerged the youngest of them all, 19 year old Elkana Chilongo who was very consistent throughout the contest.
As a way of reaching out to its customers and responding to their demands, Malawi Institute of Tourism's Kachere restaurant has introduced a local dishes menu that is served throughout the week alongside other meals. Since the introduction of this local dishes menu, the response has been overwhelming with customers filling up kachere and its sister restaurant Caledonia which is on the same campus. Among others, the local foods being served at Kachere restaurant are kholowa, khobwe, chisoso, nsima ya mgaiwa, grasshoppers whilst masau, fresh groundnuts and fresh cassava are served as desert.
The stunning Alendo hotel which is situated in the heart of Blantyre city has undergone yet another refurbishment which has left the entire hotel and its rooms looking all classy and extremely beautiful. The hotel had announced a few weeks ago that it would close for a week or two and here we are, three weeks later, the hotel looks all sorts of amazing. Hotel Manager for Alendo Hotel, Faith Kazembe said management of the hotel decided to enhence their guests' experience at the hotel by making the rooms more beautiful than they were before. She went on to say since the re-opening, the hotel has received a tremendous response in terms of bookings. "We have made Alendo hotel a home away from home and our guests are now enjoying the newly refurbished rooms with free Wi-Fi" said Kazembe.
