VACANCIES
The Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT) is a leading tourism and hospitality training and educational Institution in Malawi with training campuses in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu. The Institute also runs three application hotels, namely Alendo hotel in Blantyre, Lingadzi Inn in Lilongwe and Mzuzu Lodge
MIT is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions;
- Training Manager
- Internal Auditor
- Hotel Manager
- Campus Supervisors (2 positions)
- Training Manager – Grade M2 (3 years renewable contract)
Overall Responsibility
The Training Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the Training staff in diverse areas of tourism, hospitality and management.
Purpose of the Job
To provide strategic leadership and guidance in the management and administration of training programmes by ensuring that programmes are of high quality and relevant to the needs of the current and prospective professional and employers.
MIT is seeking a self-driven and dynamic professional capable of inspiring and leading a team of training staff. As a senior management position, the ideal candidate must demonstrate the following attributes and competencies:
- Effective leadership ability with excellent communication, presentation, public speaking and persuasive skills.
- Critical thinking, creativity and strong interpersonal skills.
- A broad understanding of the tourism industry in Malawi will be an added advantage.
- Expertise in designing, managing, and evaluating training and education programs, as well as conducting research to address emerging industry trends
- Running of assessment centers.
Key Duties
- Leading and coordinating training programmes.
- Planning, developing and evaluating training courses.
- Formulating and implementing training policies.
- Leading in the curricula review.
- Carrying out research and consultancies.
- Appraising staff in the department.
- Administering student enrolment activities.
- Liaising with practitioners in the tourism industry on matters affecting the field.
- Consolidating departmental budgets and monitor timely submission.
Qualification and Experience
Masters’ degree in Tourism or any related field from a recognized university, with not less than five years of relevant work experience.
- Internal Auditor - Grade M6B
Purpose of the Job
To conduct thorough internal audits, provide insights and recommendations, mitigate risks, improve processes and assess the organization’s financial, operational and compliance processes for optimal efficiency.
Key Duties
- Carrying out reviews of hotel revenues for accuracy.
- Reviewing front office and night audit processes to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Conducting routine and surprise cash counts in all revenue centres.
- Checking the receiving processes of items procured by the hotel and training units to ensure compliance with established procedures.
- Investigating and advising any breaches of internal controls.
- Providing input to reports and assisting in making recommendations for improvements.
- Following up on implementation of resolution of plans for reported issues.
- Advising the incorporation of newly developed or amended Acts and policies to ensure compliance.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma in Accounting, with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience.
Skills, Competencies and Attributes
An ideal candidate must possess excellent communication and reporting skills, coupled with a positive work attitude and a strong sense of moral and ethical integrity.
- Hotel Manager – Grade M4
Location: Mzuzu Lodge
Purpose of the Job
The Hotel Manager will oversee all hotel operations while coordinating student training in collaboration with the Institute’s training team.
Key Attributes:
- Dynamic and self-motivated with a high level of integrity.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from a reputable institution, with a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
Applicants with a Diploma in Hospitality Management from a reputable institution, with five years of experience in a similar managerial role, will be considered.
- Campus Supervisors – Grade M5
Locations: Lilongwe and Mzuzu Campuses
Contract Duration: 3 years
Job Purpose:
The Campus Supervisor will coordinate training programs in collaboration with the Training Manager, provide teaching support to students, and oversee all administrative functions at the satellite campus.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Hospitality and Tourism Management, or any other related field, from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of five years of relevant work experience.
