The Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT) is a leading tourism and hospitality training and educational Institution in Malawi with training campuses in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu. The Institute also runs three application hotels, namely Alendo hotel in Blantyre, Lingadzi Inn in Lilongwe and Mzuzu Lodge

POSTS (DETAILED)
1. HEAD CHEF - Grade M6
Location: Lingadzi Inn, Lilongwe (1 Position)
Purpose of the Job: To manage kitchen operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
-
Preparing kitchen checklists.
-
Developing and promoting new menu ideas and special food events.
-
Allocating work and supervising staff.
-
Monitoring sectional plans and budgets.
-
Maintaining kitchen inventory.
-
Preparing duty rosters for kitchen staff.
-
Preparing food.
-
Implementing hotel standard operating procedures.
-
Liaising with food and beverage staff on event management and menu compilation.
-
Ordering supplies from stores.
-
Compiling and submitting reports.
-
Up-selling hotel products.
-
Inducting new kitchen employees.
-
Participating in food costing.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism or Food Production, with four (4) years’ working experience.
2. FRONT OFFICE SUPERVISOR – Grade M6
Location: Lingadzi Inn, Lilongwe (1 Position)
Purpose of the Job: To provide front office services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
-
Preparing duty rosters for front office staff.
-
Liaising with other sections on hotel activities.
-
Keeping the reception area tidy.
-
Ordering supplies from stores.
-
Implementing hotel standard operating procedures.
-
Compiling and submitting reports.
-
Up-selling hotel products and services.
-
Attending to guests.
-
Supervising staff.
-
Reporting unusual activities.
-
Handling guests’ complaints.
-
Preparing and monitoring reception checklists.
-
Handling room status discrepancies.
-
Inducting newly recruited staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management with three (3) years’ working experience.
3. ASSISTANT PROCUREMENT OFFICER - Grade M6
Location: Mzuzu Lodge, Mzuzu (1 Position)
Purpose of the Job: To ensure procurement of goods, works, and services is done in a timely, professional, and cost-effective manner.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
-
Implementing and monitoring procurement plans.
-
Implementing, monitoring, and proposing reviews of procurement policies, procedures, standards, and regulations.
-
Interpreting procurement policies and regulations.
-
Preparing requests for quotations and bid documents.
-
Facilitating the closing, opening, and evaluation of bid documents.
-
Preparing, administering, and monitoring procurement contracts, and ensuring delivery of goods and services in accordance with contract terms and end-user requirements.
-
Liaising with requisitioning units to develop correct product and service specifications.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies (CIPS) with three (3) years’ relevant experience.
4. ASSISTANT STOREKEEPER – Grade M6
Location: Mzuzu Lodge, Mzuzu (1 Position)
Purpose of the Job: To manage supplies.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
-
Receiving, issuing, and delivering stocks.
-
Storing and organizing stocks.
-
Tracking and advising on re-order stock levels.
-
Updating bin cards.
-
Preparing Goods Received Notes (GRNs) for payment.
-
Processing purchase requisitions.
-
Reconciling delivery notes with purchase orders.
-
Carrying out periodic stock-taking.
-
Advising Management on slow-moving and obsolete items.
-
Maintaining accurate records.
-
Preparing supplies reports.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies (CIPS) with four (4) years’ relevant experience.
5. ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT – Grade M7
Location: Mzuzu Campus, Mzuzu (1 Position)
Purpose of the Job: To support the Finance Department by ensuring internal accounting controls are followed and financial records are accurately maintained.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
-
Posting payment vouchers and journal entries in Sage Pastel Partner.
-
Verifying accuracy and completeness of payment vouchers.
-
Collecting outstanding debts from customers (students) and clients.
-
Preparing monthly reports for both debtors and payables.
-
Writing cheques to suppliers for approved payments.
-
Compiling and organizing petty cash receipts for recouping.
-
Handling encashment of petty cash cheques.
-
Preparing schedules for medical and other statutory deductions.
-
Addressing and resolving supplier payment queries.
-
Coordinating with the front office to ensure proper posting of bills to respective accounts.
-
Conducting monthly stock-taking.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma in Financial Accounting with a minimum of four (4) years’ relevant work experience.
6. CHEF – Grade M8
Locations:

Alendo Hotel, Blantyre (1 Position)

Purpose of the Job: To manage kitchen operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
-
Preparing food.
-
Cleaning utensils and equipment.
-
Ordering foodstuffs.
-
Receiving and storing ordered foodstuffs.
-
Up-selling prepared products and services.
-
Receiving customers’ orders from waiters.
-
Preparing sales summaries.
-
Certifying food before serving.
Qualifications and Experience
Certificate in Food Production with three (3) years’ working experience.
7. WAITER – Grade M8
Location: Mzuzu Lodge, Mzuzu (1 Position)
Purpose of the Job: To ensure quality service of food and beverages.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
-
Serving food and beverages.
-
Taking food and beverage orders.
-
Billing customers.
-
Receiving and receipting cash.
-
Cleaning restaurant and bar equipment.
-
Setting up the restaurant before use.
-
Up-selling hotel products and services.
-
Handling customer complaints.
Qualifications and Experience
Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and a Certificate in Food and Beverage Services or Hospitality Management.
8. OFFICE ASSISTANT – Grade M10
Location: Head Office, Blantyre (1 Position)
Purpose of the Job: To provide messengerial and office support services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
-
Collecting and delivering mail and messages.
-
Running short errands for officers.
-
Ordering refreshments for offices.
-
Photocopying and binding documents.
-
Supervising office cleaners.
-
Maintaining inventory of office supplies.
-
Maintaining office equipment by calling for repairs and monitoring equipment operation.
-
Assisting in secretarial, storekeeping, and procurement duties when required.
Qualifications and Experience
Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) plus three (3) years’ experience. Secretarial skills will be an added advantage.
